Our Mission Statement

About Our School

Meadowlands Public School’s philosophy is to be inclusive of all students and to respect differences while celebrating common values. Staff and students work together to build an inclusive, safe, kind and friendly community based on mutual respect. Students are given many opportunities to be contributing citizens to school life and to develop leadership through programs such as lunch monitors, class buddies and special event coordinators and participants. Dynamic school spirit is demonstrated by the active involvement of many students in student athletics, all‐school assemblies and lunchtime clubs and activities. Field trips and visitors to the school enrich the experiences of all.

Meadowlands is truly a community school. We serve the area bounded by Baseline Road, Merivale Road, Woodroffe Avenue and Fallowfield Road, as well as the subdivision of Country Place. We have a dual language kindergarten program. We welcome English program students from 1 to grade 6 and French Immersion students from 1 to grade 6. Children entering our grade 1 program may choose to enroll in either an English or French Immersion program from senior Kindergarten. We also have an ESL program. We also have the Extended Day Program to care for our students both and after school hours.

Students

The students at Meadowlands take on many leadership roles. They provide valued input regarding many aspects of daily school life. Our Junior students are positive role models for younger students when they help to maintain order as Lunch Monitors, organize whole school events such as fundraising events and activities, and when Kindergarten Helpers safely walk with our youngest students to the school bus at dismissal time. Our competitive school sports teams have also received banners that are proudly displayed in our gymnasium. Student successes and contributions are acknowledged in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, and bulletin boards. Occasionally, our students and school are featured in our local community newspapers.

Staff

Our staff is kind, caring and compassionate and our students echo these traits as they welcome guests and parents into the school. We also believe that a child's quality of character is their most important asset. We have integrated character education into our curriculum. We promote and celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity through our curriculum and in our extra curricular activities. Our goal is to produce not only life long learners, citizens of the world, and stewarts who take care of the environment. Many educators and classes practice outdoor learning and spend many hours in nature in an engaged and  scholarly manner. We support and guide children with their social-emotional growth and build in a growth mindset, and many mindful moments.

Our teachers are dedicated educators who are constantly updating their qualifications. Many on staff have post graduate degrees. Our teachers are widely respected in the community, serving as mentors for teacher candidates from Ottawa University and Nippissing University, as well as early childhood educator, social work, child and youth worker program supervisors for students from Algonquin College.

Parents/Guardians and Community

Meadowlands staff and students benefit from the hours contributed by our faithful volunteers. Our School Council meets monthly and is very dedicated to planning, organizing and hosting a variety of events to build community and raise funds for school initiatives. The fund‐raising efforts provide enhancements and extras to our programming needs, such as the recreation of the school's library into a meadowy Learning Commons with a makerspace. We also have a number of dedicated parent volunteers who read to our students, support our classroom activities, and on field trips.

Meadowlands is an outstanding school and community made greater with every new child and family.
